Rolf Romei
Tenor
The Swiss tenor Rolf Romei has been singing the great tenor roles in his field for many years: Lohengrin, Parsifal, Hoffmann, Faust, Idomeneo, Peter Grimes, Lenski in Eugene Onegin, Prince in Rusalka, or most recently Michael in Stockhausen’s Donnerstag aus licht and Paul in Korngold’s The Dead City (Die Tote Stadt).
This is his ENO debut.
Career Highlights
After his debut as Paul The Dead City (Die tote Stadt) at the Theater Basel, his home company since 2006, he has gone on to sing this demanding role in Moscow and at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest. He received much encouragement from Nicolai Gedda, with whom he studied privately, and at the beginning of his career he was regularly engaged in St Gallen and Oldenburg, as well as appearances in Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, the Bayerisches
Staatsoper, Teatro Real Madrid, Edinburgh Festival and Ruhrtriennale.
In addition to his operatic appearances, he is in much demand on the concert platform as a soloist in oratorio, contemporary music and lieder.
