Joseph Doody hails from Shipley, West Yorkshire. He studied at Edinburgh University, the Royal College of Music, and the National Opera Studio.

Recent roles include Aufidio in Lucio Silla (Mozart) at Salzburger Landestheater, Alessandro in Il Re Pastore (Mozart) at Buxton International Festival, Mosquito The Cunning Little Vixen (Janáček) with Welsh National Opera, Toby Robinson Crusoe (Offenbach) at West Green House, and a critically acclaimed Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola with English Touring Opera. He also played Peter Pears in Jonathan Ainscough’s play with music A Letter from Ben at the Royal Opera House’s Clore Studios.

Career Highlights

In concert Joseph has sung Bach’s Johannes-Passion (arias) with orchestras including the Hanover Band and the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, Britten’s Serenade and Les Illuminations with Skipton Camerata, Monteverdi’s Vespers with the Dunedin Consort, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with Southbank Sinfonia, Brahms’s Liebeslieder Waltzes with the Royal Choral Society, and many performances of Carmina Burana including at with Brighton Festival Chorus and at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall. He recently made debuts at the Händel-Festspiele, Halle, and the Wigmore Hall, as Mordecai in Handel’s Esther with Solomon’s Knot.

Joseph sings the role of Captain Trevor on the first complete recording of Stanford’s Shamus O’Brien, with the orchestra of Scottish Opera conducted by David Parry.

Plans for 2025 include the Evangelist in Bach’s Johannes-Passion at Southwark Cathedral, and the role of Count Almaviva Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Longborough Festival Opera.
