17th November 2016 in News
Over the last four decades Jonathan Miller’s much-loved productions have been at the heart of ENO’s work. From his insightful The Marriage of Figaro in 1978 to his charming and witty The Elixir of Love in 2010, many of Jonathan’s fifteen productions are now staples of our repertoire. There have been 1,044 performances of his productions to date, making up 16.5% of all ENO performances at the London Coliseum. In 2015 The Mikado celebrated its 200th show, with over 20,000 people attending this run of performances. In February 2017 his legendary ‘Mafia’ production of Rigoletto will be seen once again at the London Coliseum.
For one very special evening, ENO celebrated the work of this great director. Joined by ENO’s award-winning Orchestra and Chorus, some of the UK’s best loved opera singers performed excerpts from his many productions. This all-star cast included Susan Bullock, Linda Richardson, Sarah Tynan, Fiona Canfield, Jean Rigby, Amy Kerenza Sedgwick, David Webb, John Hudson, Philip Daggett, Garry Sutcliffe, Alan Opie, Andrew Shore, Roland Wood, Richard Suart, Graeme Danby and Mark Richardson. It was conducted by Martin Fitzpatrick and Peter Robinson.
At the end of the evening Jonathan joined the cast onstage, receiving a standing ovation from the audience in recognition of his extraordinary career and phenomenal contribution to the Company.
