Running Prop Technician - Spring 2024

£38,319.21 per annum, pro rata

23.01.2024 – 07.04.2024

Working across the productions coming up in the Spring Season, the Running Props Technician will ensure that all aspects of the prop running of rehearsals and performances are carried out to the highest possible standards.

Key Accountabilities

  • Get in / out props for the beginning and end of rehearsals
  • Receive and prepare deliveries at all ENO locations as required – unpack / wrap / write labels / liaise with appropriate personnel this may include items from Learning and Participation or other productions.
  • Assist Stage Management with the setting up and running of the show during rehearsals and carry out show cues as required. This may include other department cues, for example door cues
  • Carry out basic prop maintenance and liaise with Running Props Manager to organise larger repairs with the Prop Workshop
  • Assist Stage Management with the running of the rehearsal room. Tasks may include but are not limited to; sweeping & mopping the rehearsal room / setting up the chorus chairs / moving the keyboard between rehearsal spaces
  • Attend to a variety of tasks required by the Stage Manager, Running Prop Manager and Prop Supervisor – for example, purchasing running food props / cleaning supplies
  • Update own cue sheets from Stage Management paperwork, for record keeping and in order for other staff to cover performances. i.e. changes to Props Plot and Running Plot
  • Liaise with Running Props Manager regarding show staffing requirements with regard to Health and Safety; particularly Manual Handling
  • Unpack props from rehearsals and any additional items from Prop Workshop, in accordance with Show Storage Plan, into the performance space
  • Assist Running Props Manager, Stage Management and Prop Supervisor in checking through Props List to ensure all props are checked in and ready for use in technical rehearsals and performances
  • Ensure that all prop running requirements are accurately set out
  • Prepare and handle any edible food as required for productions
  • Carry out all prop laundry / cleaning / washing as required
  • Participate in afternoon changeovers, and strike and packs, if required
  • Pack away all props between rehearsals and performances onstage, in accordance with the Show Storage Plan, unless otherwise notified by Management
  • Keep the Prop Room clean and tidy. i.e. Floor swept / bins emptied / tools put away
  • Assist Running Prop Manager and/or Prop Workshop Manager in the unpacking / packing of shows either for storage or international productions

Knowledge and Skills Required

Essential

  • Previous professional theatre experience in a prop capacity and an excellent understanding of current theatre practice
  • Good maintenance skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with colleagues and staff at all levels
  • The ability to work as part of a team and independently, under minimum supervision
  • A proactive, flexible, collaborative and conscientious approach to work with an open mind to new or different ways of working
  • Excellent punctuality and the ability to set an example to others, exhibiting a professional attitude at all times
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure

Desirable

  • Advanced maintenance skills – painting / carpentry / sewing
  • Good knowledge and understanding of current prop construction, practice and maintenance
