Anthony Holden was the author of nearly 40 books on a wide range of subjects, including biographies of Shakespeare, Tchaikovsky, Lorenzo da Ponte, Laurence Olivier and Leigh Hunt, as well as translations of Ancient Greek plays and poetry. He died in 2023.
Career Highlights
With Amanda Holden, Anthony also made English translations of Don Giovanni (also for Jonathan Miller at ENO) and La bohème.
The author of several books about poker, including the best-selling Big Deal, he co-edited (with his son Ben) the best-seller anthology Poems That Make Grown Men Cry, soon followed by Poems that Make Grown Women Cry.
