Barbara Drosihn was born in Hamburg and studied costume design at the HAW Hamburg.

Career Highlights
After training as a tailor, she worked as an assistant at the Thalia Theater Hamburg. She designed costumes at the Thalia Theater, Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Burgtheater Vienna, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Dresden and Cologne for productions by Michael Thalheimer, Stephan Kimmig, Nicolas Stemann, Andreas Kriegenburg and Stefan Bachmann, among others.
She has worked with director Tatjana Gürbaca for many years, designing costumes for Parsifal and Der fliegende Holländer (Vlaamse Opera Antwerp), La traviata (Den Norske Opera, Oslo), Capriccio and the Ring trilogy (Theater an der Wien), La finta giardiniera (Winterthur) and, most recently, Le Grand Macabre (Zurich).
Another long-standing collaboration connects her with the director Christof Loy, for whom she has designed costumes for Lucrezia Borgia (Bavarian State Opera), Parsifal, Der Rosenkavalier and Der Ferne Klang (Royal Opera Stockholm), Das Wunder der Heliane (Deutsche Oper Berlin) and Don Pasquale (Zurich Opera House). At the Zurich Opera House she also created the costumes for Andreas Homoki’s I puritani and Fidelio.
