Baritone

Winner of the 2020 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, 25-year-old baritone Blake Denson has been praised for his ‘striking upper register’ and his ‘sound that boomed to the back of the house’ (Opera Wire).

He has scheduled debuts at Washington National Opera (Schaunard), Santa Fe Opera (Plutone Orfeo, Angelotti), Bayerische Staatsoper (Larkens La fanciulla del West). This is his ENO debut. On the concert platform he joins Paducah Symphony Orchestra for Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, conducted by Raffaele Ponti.

Currently for ENO: Donner The Rhinegold. This is his ENO debut.

Career Highlights

Recent engagements include: his debut with Des Moines Metro Opera as Jake Porgy and Bess; and The Pirates of Penzance with Houston Symphony Orchestra.

A graduate of the prestigious Houston Grand Opera studio, his roles there included Moralès Carmen, Peter Hansel und Gretel, Daddy/Tim Snowy Day, Gregorio Roméo et Juliette and Gaoler Dialogues des Carmélites. He is an alumnus of Wolf Trap Opera, the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, and the University of Kentucky.

His many awards include Richard Tucker Grant Winner, and winner of the Dallas Opera and the Pasadena Vocal Competitions.
