Corinna Niemeyer was appointed Music Director of the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg in September 2020.

Her enthusiasm for conveying music in innovative ways is reflected in the breadth of her activities, which include period music ensembles, contemporary premieres, cross-disciplinary projects, opera, as well as mainstream symphonic projects. She has established a reputation for her ability to connect with audiences and for her creative approach to presenting concerts.

Corinna is establishing her reputation as an opera conductor and started the season with a return to the Royal Opera House to conduct the UK premiere of Sir George Benjamin’s opera Picture a day like this. This followed her debut at the Linbury Theatre in Autumn 2022 with Oliver Mears’ new production of Britten’s Rape of Lucretia, co-produced with Britten Pears Arts. The 2023/24 season will also see Corinna conduct productions of Massenet’s Cendrillon at Opéra de Lausanne and Purcell’s The Fairy Queen at Theater St Gallen.

Corinna’s innovative programming is reflected in the repertoire she conducts with the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg which this season includes Haydn, Mozart, Ligeti’s Mysteries of the Macabre and Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été with Ian Bostridge.

Career Highlights

Recent and future orchestral highlights include the Orchestre de Paris, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Hallé, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, l’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France, MDR Sinfonieorchester, Heidelberg Philharmonic, Kammerakademie Potsdam, Beethoven Orchester Bonn and Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife. Corinna also regularly conducts Les Siècles and Ensemble Modern.

Corinna made her debut at Opéra de Lille in 2022, conducting Les Siècles in a production of Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges. She has also conducted Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro at Cologne Opera, Rossini’s Le Comte Ory at Opéra de Metz, and at Grand Theatre de la Ville de Luxembourg a double-bill featuring Viktor Ullmann’s one act opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis and the world premiere of Eugene Birman En vertu de… about the European Human Rights Convention.
