Duncan Ward is Chief Conductor of PhilZuid (South Netherlands Philharmonic).
Recent engagements include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Zurich Opera); Peter Grimes (Oper Köln); LSO (Barbican and Trafalgar Square); Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks; Dresden Philharmonic; Trondheim Symphony; Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg; Lucerne Symphony; Les Siècles; Finnish Radio Symphony and Kammerakademie Potsdam. He made his North American debut in 2022 with Die Zauberflöte (Metropolitan Opera), conducted the opening ceremony of the Salzburg Festival with the Mozarteum Orchester, broadcast live on TV, alongside memorable concerts with Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Vienna Radio Symphony, Balthasar Neumann and NDR Elbphilharmonie orchestras.

Forthcoming: Così fan tutte (Opéra national de Lyon); Death in Venice (Stuttgart Staatsoper); debuts with Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Osaka Philharmonic, Orchestre Symphonique du Quebec; returns to Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and NFM Wroclaw Philharmonic.
He is passionate about a hugely wide-ranging repertoire, and is equally at home working with period-instrument ensembles as with contemporary music specialists.
He co-founded the WAM Foundation, enabling young British musicians to teach in schools across India and has also collaborated with the South African non-profit organisation MIAGI, for whom he directed a major tour in 2018 to celebrate the centenary of Nelson Mandela’s birth.
Through his work across India, he had the rare privilege to be personally invited to study Indian classical music with the celebrated sitarist Ravi Shankar.
