Portrait of Lizzy Neil

Lizzy Neil

Violin

When did you join the orchestra?
I joined over 25 years ago.

Favourite ENO opera?
Ariodante, Cosi fan tutte, and Falstaff.

Best ENO moment?
Xerxes with Anne Murray and Sir Charles Mackerras conducting.

How did you start?
My musical life began from when I was born as my parents are both professional musicians.
I first started learning the violin aged five and was inspired by my parents and recordings of violinists like Alfredo Campoli, Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman.
As a child I was much happier riding horses rather than practising my violin; but, gradually realised that music is also my passion which is constantly fulfilled playing Opera.

Passion outside of opera?
Horse-riding, swimming and going to the Theatre.
