Keel Watson studied singing and trombone at Trinity College of Music with Elizabeth Hawes and Roger Brenner.

Career Highlights

In recent seasons he has performed Dr Bartolo The Marriage of Figaro, Aye Akhnaten and Mars Orpheus in the Underworld (ENO); Bonze Madam Butterfly (ENO, WNO); Don Basilio The Barber of Seville (WNO); and Commendatore Don Giovanni (Scottish Opera). Other roles performed include Bosun Billy Budd (ROH); Fasolt Das Rheingold (Lisbon, Palermo); Iago Otello, Dosifey Khovanshchina, Don Pizarro Fidelio (Birmingham Opera); Zuniga Carmen, Mandryka Arabella (Opera North); and King Shariyaati Sukayna (ROH and LPO). He has also performed regularly with Opera Holland Park and English Touring Opera. Recordings include Second Armed Man in Kenneth Branagh’s 2006 film version of The Magic Flute. Major concert engagements include the concert version of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess (Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and RSNO); The Dream of Gerontius (RFH) and A Child of our Time (CBSO).
