Lighting Designer
Mark Jonathan is a lighting designer. His opera, ballet, drama and musical designs in the UK include productions at Birmingham Royal Ballet, Buxton, Chichester, Edinburgh Festival, Garsington, Glyndebourne, Grange Festival, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, NT, Royal Court, Royal Exchange, London Children’s Ballet, RSC, Royal Ballet, Scottish Opera, WNO, London’s West End and many regional theatres.
Overseas he has designed in Aarhus, Antwerp, Banff, Barcelona, Berlin, Bordeaux, Charleston, Copenhagen, Dublin, Ghent, Florence, Helsinki, Houston, Johannesburg, Kuwait, Los Angeles, Madrid, Mexico, Munich, New York, Oslo, Paris, Potsdam, Spoleto, Stockholm, Strasbourg, Stuttgart, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Toulouse, Vienna and Washington.
He was Head of Lighting at the National Theatre from 1993–2003. He is an honorary fellow of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
He was nominated for the Drama Desk award for Outstanding Lighting for Prometheus Bound in New York and received a Knight of Illumination nomination for Lulu (WNO). He won the Knight of Illumination for Vanessa at Glyndebourne. www.markjonathan.com
