Sydney began her musical training as a classical violinist in her home state of California and went on to study voice at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.

Notable engagements elsewhere: her debut with the Metropolitan Opera as Pamina The Magic Flute and as Frasquita Carmen; her European debut with Komische Oper Berlin as the heroines in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Cleopatra Giulio Cesare, Pamina Die Zauberflöte; Gilda, Musetta, Pamina Die Zauberflöte, Roxana Szymanowski’s Król Roger and Susanna Le nozze di Figaro (Oper Frankfurt).
