Thando Mjandana

Thando Mjandana was born in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Early exposure to music at church and school got him singing from a young age, and his fascination with music continued through high school where he first encountered opera. He joined the school choir from grade 10 until he matriculated in 2008; he studied further at the University of Cape Town Opera School and later worked for Cape Town Opera in 2012 as a member of AD HOC.

Career Highlights
Opera productions at UCT and Cape Town Opera include: Il viaggio a Reims, La traviata, Le nozze di Figaro, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Carmen, Rigoletto, Mandela Trilogy, Porgy and Bess, Sibusiso Njeza’s Blood of Mine and Angelique Mouyis’s The Blue eyed Xhosa. With the Cape Town Opera he has travelled and performed in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Argentina, Ireland and the UK. In addition, he was Tamino The Magic Flute in Cape Town Opera’s Outreach programme, and worked with KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra singing Uriel in Haydn’s Creation. This is his ENO debut.
