ENO Music Director Mark Wigglesworth and former ENO Harewood Artist Kathryn Rudge have been shortlisted for 2016 Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards. The RPS Awards celebrate outstanding musical achievement in the calendar year 2015. Mark has been nominated in the Conductor category while Kathryn has been nominated for the Young Artist award.
During the last season Mark has conducted performances of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, The Force of Destiny and The Magic Flute. The Force of Destiny has been nominated for an Olivier Award, and Mark has also been nominated in the Conductor category of the International Opera Awards. He will conduct performances of Janacek’s Jenůfa, directed by David Alden, this summer.
Mezzo soprano Kathryn Rudge last appeared at the London Coliseum as Rosina in Jonathan Miller’s production of The Barber of Seville. What’s On Stage wrote of her performance that “Kathryn Rudge, one of Britain’s brightest young mezzos, continues on her upward career curve as a delightful Rosina…Rossini’s fiendish writing held no terrors for her”.
Nominees in other categories who have also recently worked with ENO include singers Iestyn Davies, Andrew Watts and Roderick Williams and composer Julian Anderson.
Winners for this year’s awards will be announced on 10 May. Many congratulations to all those nominated.
