New ENO Harewood Artist Soraya Mafi is the latest recipient of the biennial £10,000 prize in memory of the British soprano Susan Chilcott. The Chilcott Award offers funding to an emerging British opera singer for advanced training or career development. Soraya will use the money on extra singing lessons, language tuition and other travel and promotional expenses.

Soraya most recently performed the role of Karolka in David Alden’s production of Jenufa, and previously Papagena in The Magic Flute (pictured above with Peter Coleman-Wright) and can be seen as Mabel in the revival of Mike Leigh’s production of The Pirates of Penzance in February 2017.
