Join our chairman Dr Harry Brunjes as he hosts an evening of entertainment and conversation with broadcaster, writer, and novelist, Melvyn Bragg.

Melvyn Bragg, , was born on 6 October 1939 in Wigton, Cumbria. Educated at Wadham College, Oxford, he began his broadcasting career at the BBC in 1961. Since 1967, he has had a distinguished career as a writer and broadcaster, serving as the writer, editor, and presenter of The South Bank Show since 1978 and as Controller of Arts at London Weekend Television since 1990. He presented BBC Radio 4’s Start the Week for a decade before becoming a Life Peer in 1998.

Bragg holds several public roles, including Chancellor of Leeds University, President of the National Campaign for the Arts, and Governor of the London School of Economics. A prolific novelist, his notable works include The Hired Man, The Maid of Buttermere, and The Soldier’s Return, which won the WH Smith Literary Award. Recent books include Twelve Books that Changed the World and Remember Me.
