John Adams

El Niño

Following the change in COVID restrictions, we are sorry to announce that these performances will no longer be happening

Coronavirus Lockdown Update

El Niño (‘Little Boy’) explores the biblical Nativity story from a female perspective, weaving together a variety of texts, including passages from the Bible and works from Hispanic poets.

Celebrating the miracle of birth, it examines the varying and conflicting emotions experienced during pregnancy and childbirth.

This rarely performed work continues ENO’s long association with John Adams, following our critically acclaimed productions of Nixon in China, The Death of Klinghoffer, Doctor Atomic, and the world stage premiere of the oratorio The Gospel According to the Other Mary in 2014.

ENO’s award-winning Chorus and Orchestra will be joined on stage by six outstanding soloists – Nardus Williams (ENO Harewood Artist), Jennifer Johnston, James Rutherford, Jake Arditti, Tom Scott-Cowell and Feargal Mostyn-Williams, alongside a children’s choir from the Finchley Children’s Music Group.

Our Music Director Martyn Brabbins conducts.
