ENO’s Gilbert & Sullivan Walking Tour
Join a unique guided walking tour of Victorian London, encountering the operettas and history of Gilbert & Sullivan.
Specially curated for the English National Opera by leading Gilbert & Sullivan singer/director John Savournin. This tour will take you on an immersive theatrical journey around Westminster. Part of Westminster City Council’s Inside Out outdoor arts festival this summer. The festival boasts fun and exciting cultural events throughout the city and best of all, events are free for everybody to enjoy!
Along the route you’ll meet a cast of characters played by Ruairi Bowen, Trevor Eliot Bowes, Zoe Drummond, Harriet Eyley, Ossian Huskinson, Bethan Langford and Richard Suart, as well as John Savournin, who will sing live to music newly-recorded by the world-class ENO Chorus & Orchestra, which you’ll hear through special headsets.
So expect to encounter, amongst others, a local bobby, a wandering prisoner of the Tower, the First Lord of the Admiralty – even fairies! – at famous London landmarks.
The tour starts from outside the Savoy Theatre, the famous home of Gilbert & Sullivan’s comic operas. It ends at ENO’s home at the London Coliseum, where many of Gilbert & Sullivan’s works are performed today.
Whether you are new to opera or a Gilbert & Sullivan fanatic, this tour offers a fun, immersive and unique way to experience the music.
